NIPT (Non-Invasive Prenatal Screening) Blood Test
During pregnancy, it is perfectly natural to want to check if your child is fit and healthy. Bump2BabyScans in Leicester offers expectant parents a thorough NIPT (Non-Invasive Prenatal Screening) Blood Test Menu.
NIPT tests are carried out in a simple blood test and performed to estimate a woman’s personalised risk of her baby being born with a genetic condition such as Down’s Syndrome (Trisomy 21), Edward’s Syndrome (Trisomy 18) or Turners Syndrome.
You can choose to find out the gender of your baby with any of our NIPT tests, from only 9 week’s gestation and can expect the results within 7-10 working days of the sample being received by our lab. A member of our team keeps you fully informed of its progress and support you with any questions you may have.
The traditional NHS combined test to measure the nuchal translucency (NT) and a hormone-based blood test are proven to be much less accurate than NIPT testing and only detect approximately 85% of babies with a potential genetic condition, often causing unnecessary stress and worry and resulting in a referral for a private NIPT blood test.
Contact our clinic in Leicestershire or check out our advanced blood test menu for more information.
Trimester® ONE - The Only NIPT available from 9 Weeks
Starting from 9 weeks of pregnancy, 9+0 weeks since the first day of the last menstrual period (LMP). Trimester® ONE determines the risk factor solely for Down’s syndrome (Trisomy 21) from maternal blood. If desired, the gender of your baby may also be requested. Trimester® ONE can be performed in the case of a twin pregnancy, following fertility treatment – as well as egg donation.
Please Note: this test does not replace other NIPT test’s and it does not test for Patau’s or Edwards Syndrome.

What is NIPT?
Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) is a screening test that takes a look at the infant’s DNA in the mother’s circulatory system to distinguish if the infant is influenced by certain chromosomal disease.
Why have NIPT?
At present, all pregnant ladies can have a combined serum screening test which comprises a blood test and an ultrasound check. This test is less touchy than NIPT (86% recognition rate for Down’s Syndrome and 80% identification for Edwards’ and Patau’s Syndromes).
